Expired Listing Follow-Up Emails: A Complete 3-Email Campaign

A months-old expired lead who has gone quiet doesn't need another cold pitch. They need a reason to look at the market again. This is a complete three-email campaign for exactly that seller, word for word: the Gain email, the Logic email, and the Fear email, with subject lines, why each one works, and when to send them.

The Gain, Logic, Fear arc

This is a complete three-email sequence for a months-old expired seller who has gone quiet. It runs a Gain, then Logic, then Fear arc: show the opportunity, explain the reasoning, then surface what quietly waiting could cost. Swap every [bracketed] field before sending.

Email 1: "Something changed since you were on the market"

Subject: Something changed since you were on the market

Hi [First Name],

A lot has changed in your neighborhood since your home was last on the market. Inventory levels have shifted. Buyer demand has adjusted. And leverage has moved in different price ranges.

When you stepped back before, it likely made sense based on the conditions at the time. But markets don't stay still. In fact, many homeowners who paused months ago are now re-entering in a stronger position simply because the market has adjusted.

If you'd like, I can show you what's changed in your specific price range, how buyer demand compares to when you were listed, and whether today's conditions give you more negotiating power. It takes about 10 minutes. [Calendar Link], or just reply.

Common questions

When should I send each of the three emails?

Day 1, day 4, and day 8 is the recommended rhythm. It's close enough that the arc builds on itself, spaced enough that a quiet lead doesn't feel chased. If email one gets a reply, stop the sequence and have the conversation instead.

Do I need to personalize the emails before sending?

Yes. Swap every bracketed field, first name, calendar link, signature, before sending. One added line of real local detail, like a recent sale in their neighborhood, lifts replies noticeably because it proves a person wrote it.

Why are the emails ordered Gain, then Logic, then Fear?

The arc meets a cold lead where they are: first show the opportunity (the market changed), then explain the reasoning (leverage moves, timing matters), then surface what quietly waiting could cost. Opening with fear reads as a scare pitch. Ending with it, after two honest emails, reads as a fair warning.

What if the seller doesn't reply to any of the three?

They move into your long-term rhythm and the campaign still did its job: you're the agent who showed up with reasoning instead of a pitch, and cold expireds re-enter the market on their own clock. Pairing the sequence with one phone call, using the old expired listings script, raises the odds of a live conversation.
